Sandomierz is a relatively small town with a population of around 23,863 inhabitants. Despite its size, the Sandomierz region boasts a rich winemaking tradition dating back to the 13th century, when the Dominicans established the first vineyards around 1226. The rolling hills of the Sandomierz Upland, characterized by loess soils and south-eastern slopes, together with the Vistula’s moderating microclimate, have long been ideal for high-quality viticulture. Today the area is alive with wine tourism – the Sandomierz Wine Trail includes 9 vineyards, and more estates continue to open their doors to visitors. The region attracts not only wine lovers but also tourists drawn by its history, architecture, and scenic beauty.
Departing by car in the morning, you can visit one or several wineries, enjoy a pleasant time with a glass of wine, and return to Sandomierz the same day. Because many smaller wineries do not yet maintain regular opening hours, it’s best to call ahead and schedule your visit—otherwise, you may arrive to find no one on site. Contact details are available on each winery’s page on our portal.
