The autumn edition of the PIWI Wine Award International 2024 brought reasons to celebrate for Polish winemakers. Two Polish wineries were among the winners, collecting a total of four medals — two gold and two silver — across various categories of white, red and sparkling wines.
Winnica Pod Jabłonią
Pod Jabłonią Vineyard is a family vineyard located in Wierzchucice, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, about 30 km from Bydgoszcz. The estate spans approximately 4 hectares of vines planted on former apple orchards, merging orchard landscapes with vine cultivation. The vineyard hosts visitors via tastings, open vineyard days, and offers a camper site. Its surroundings include forests, meadows and Lake Wierzchucińskie. Wines produced are white, red, and rosé, mostly dry style.
HISTORY OF Winnica Pod Jabłonią
The vineyard was founded in 2017 by Agnieszka and Adam Białachowscy, inspired by wine-region travels and an affinity for nature. The location was chosen on former apple orchard land in Wierzchucice, which also inspired its name.
Grape varieties grown include Solaris, Riesling, Muscaris, Regent, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. The vines are planted on slopes near Lake Wierzchucińskie, where terrain incline and morning humidity support grape development. Annual wine production amounts to about 15,000 bottles. Wines from Pod Jabłonią have been entered in both Polish and international competitions.
