Winnica Smolis
Smolis Vineyard is located in Brzeziny, approximately 20 km from Łódź, within the Łódź Hills Landscape Park. The cultivation area covers 1.2 hectares, hosting around 4,000 grapevines. The cultivated varieties include Seyval Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Leon Millot, and Rondo. Sparkling wines are produced using the traditional method, with secondary fermentation in the bottle, and age on lees for at least three years. The portfolio includes white and rosé wines, such as Brut, Brut Nature, Extra Sec, and Rosé. The vineyard practices organic cultivation without the use of chemicals, and most work is performed manually.
HISTORY OF Winnica Smolis
Jan Smolis, a Frenchman of Polish descent, was born in Reims and served for eight years as the technical director at Champagne de Castellane in Épernay. In 2009, after relocating to Poland, he established the vineyard in Brzeziny with his wife Ewa. The initial plantings included Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, and Seyval Blanc. In 2016, the vineyard released its first sparkling wines to the market. In 2023, Jan Smolis initiated the formation of the Association of Winemakers of the Łódź Region.
