Winnica Stara Szkoła

Stara Szkoła Vineyard is located in Karczewek, in the Kiszkowo commune in Gniezno County, about 35 km north of Poznań, on the edge of the Zielonki Forest. The vineyard comprises an ecologically managed vine plantation covering two hectares, on which about eight thousand grapevine plants grow. Stara Szkoła Vineyard is cultivated by hand, using a low-intervention technology close to biodynamics.
At Stara Szkoła Vineyard, guests are greeted by the restored building of a former school, renovated into a house with a guest section. The property offers four apartments for rent under a B&B formula, which includes overnight stay and breakfast. Guests have at their disposal rest areas on the vineyard grounds and a garden.

The vineyard's offer for visitors includes guided tastings lasting two to three hours. The program of the visits includes a walk among the grapevines with a discussion of the cultivation, a tour of the winery, and a wine tasting with regional accompaniments, including cheeses, cold cuts and bread. The vineyard also organizes workshops and sells its wines on site. The vineyard's wines are vegan, produced without additives, preservatives or enhancers, and the sulfur level is usually no higher than 10–15% of the standard, sometimes zero.

The surroundings of Stara Szkoła Vineyard are made up of the fields and forests of the Zielonki Forest. Nearby are Lake Turostowskie and the Cistercian Cycling Trail, which connects places associated with the Cistercian Order in Greater Poland, and one can also visit the Wooden Churches Trail in the vicinity.

HISTORY OF Winnica Stara Szkoła

Stara Szkoła Vineyard belongs to Paweł and Marlena Gronowski. The couple moved to Karczewek from Czerwonak, located a few communes away, closer to Poznań. They got to know the area during cycling trips, and developed their interest in winemaking on trips abroad, during which they visited vineyards and talked to their owners. Before founding the vineyard, Paweł worked as CEO of a large company.
At first, Paweł Gronowski planted 30 grapevines by the house and started making homemade wine, which he shared with his acquaintances. To gain the knowledge needed to start a vineyard, both of them — although they had already passed fifty — took up postgraduate studies in winemaking technology at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences.

The estate in Karczewek was purchased about four years before the 2025 season, and the renovation of the building and the preparation of the land for the plantation began in parallel. The building, where the guest section of Stara Szkoła Vineyard operates today, is a former German-era school from about 130 years ago. According to the owners' account, the vineyard's name came from a story heard during earlier visits to vineyards: that when you find your own place, it itself tells you what the vineyard should be called. Since then, Stara Szkoła Vineyard has combined wine production with agrotourism and hosting gatherings for guests.
